The juvenile knew Zion Barton, 18, of the Bronx, who she apparently stabbed around 9:50 Wednesday night on Roosevelt Avenue, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Carteret Police Chief Dennis McFadden said.
He was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, they said.
The juvenile was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
The girl was detained pending a preliminary hearing in Superior Court.
The murder did not appear to be a random act, Ciccone and McFadden said.
The investigation is active and continuing.
